Phoebe Lowe is an 17 year old artist who lives in Lower Hutt. She has been drawing since she was a toddler, and begun painting on canvas at 16 for a year long school project. Since then, she has exhibited many times, alongside her artist mother. With her playful, graffiti inspired style, her work is loved by young and old.

I didn’t just wake up one day and decide to be an artist; it’s more like I’ve been chasing colors since I could hold a crayon. Growing up in Lower Hutt, my world was always a mix of quiet suburbs and the vibrant, loud energy of the graffiti I’d see in the city. At 16, I traded my sketches for a year-long school project that pushed me onto canvas for the first time. It was terrifying and amazing.
Since then, my journey has been a whirlwind of late-night painting sessions and the adrenaline of my first exhibitions alongside my mum. Every gallery wall and painting lesson has taught me the same thing: art is about being honest. My work is a playground where playful graffiti shapes meet the fantasy worlds of home. It’s my way of making sense of the world, one bold stroke at a time.

My work lives in the space between bright energy and deep contentment. I find inspiration in bold New Zealand light, the nostalgia of vivid childhood colors, and those everyday moments that feel like home. I want people to see a piece and feel a sudden rush of joy, followed by a long, calm breath.

How should I care for my original painting?
Keep your art out of direct sunlight to protect the vibrant colors. A gentle dust with a soft, dry microfibre cloth is all it needs to stay fresh.
